Description: Valve data displayed in this layer is according to purpose. If a valve has an A before it, it is an air release valve. If it has a B before it, it is a by-pass valve. If it has a D before it, it is a hydrant valve. If it has a V before it, it is a system valve. There are certain other objects on this layer. I've included, Curb Boxes (CB), Fittings, such as a TEE or a 45 or 90 degree bend. There may be other objects on this layer.Valve numbering is as follows: V(Quarter Section Number)-(Sequence Number). So a valve with the number, V136-012, is in Quarter Section 136, and it is the 12th valve labeled in the section.Hydrant valves are labeled according to it's corresponding hydrant. Hydrants are labeled the same as valves. So, if you find hydrant H008-008, you should see a valve by this hydrant labeled, D008-008.By-pass valves are located with a system valve with a line draw in between the two. If you find V029-002, you should also see a valve B029-002. These valves are typically found on 12" and larger system valves. The by-pass valve allows for easier operation of the system valve. Not all large valves have by-pass valves attached. In this case, that would indicate a butteryfly valve which is different from a normal gate valve. There are a small number of air release valves in the city. Mostly scattered on the outlying areas. There are exceptions to this case. Air valves will be numbered the same as system valves. If you have any dobts to what you're looking at, call Karl Ziemer in the Water Dept.
